Summary:

Are you a law student looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment? Surfline is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Business & Legal Affairs Intern to join our legal team for the Spring 2025 semester. This is an exceptional opportunity to work closely with our Vice President of Legal and cross-functional teams on a variety of critical legal and business matters, gaining practical insights into in-house legal work at a private company.

You’ll gain direct exposure to all aspects of the business and many areas of law: corporate, employment, data privacy, commercial contracts, marketing, advertising, and intellectual property. You’ll help with projects across the full range of subject matters supported by the Surfline legal function. You must be able to adapt to changing priorities and business needs, be proactive in identifying areas of need and generating action plans, and have a strong interest in learning how a company works, how an in-house department functions, compliance and business development.

Under Surfline’s “Work from Anywhere” policy, this position may be performed on a full-time remote basis from California or a variety of locations in the US.

What You'll Do:

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support legal and business affairs projects.
  • Assist with drafting, reviewing, and managing commercial contracts and related documentation.
  • Conduct research on legal issues related to business operations, including employment law, data privacy regulations, and compliance matters.
  • Contribute to company-wide legal and compliance initiatives, ensuring adherence to applicable laws and best practices.
  • Proactively provide and seek feedback to improve processes and deliverables.
  • Maintain accurate records and assist in the organization of legal documents and databases.

What We're Looking For:

  • Enrollment in an accredited law school (2L or 3L).
  • Strong interest in learning about in-house legal practice.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented and organized.
  • Comfortable reaching out and initiating communication with various team members.
  • Adaptable and able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proactive, collaborative, and professional approach to work.
