Surfline is seeking a motivated undergraduate student to join our Content team as a part-time intern for Summer 2026. As a Video Archive & Editing Intern, you’ll get hands-on experience working with decades of surf media - diving into a rich library of footage while learning the tools, workflows and behind-the-scenes operations that power a modern content team. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with the Video Programming Manager to gain insight into how large-scale media libraries are organized, maintained and brought to life. You’ll help audit legacy server storage, catalog archival footage, and improve how our video assets are structured and accessed. This is a unique opportunity to play a meaningful role in preserving Surfline’s media history while building real-world skills in video editing, media management and content operations. 

Under Surfline’s “Work from Anywhere” policy, this position may be performed on a remote basis from any location within California.

What You'll Do:

Content Operational Support

  • Maintain and organize historical and archival Surfline footage
  • Catalog video files including; file names, formats, locations, metadata, etc
  • Identify duplicate, missing, or inaccessible files and flag issues for the team
  • Learn established workflows and documentation standards

Media Library Projects

  • Audit and document Surfline’s legacy video server assets
  • Assist in the creation of organizational structure for an inventory of media assets; including file locations, accessibility status and more
  • Support the content team on a real-world media operations project

Communication & Collaboration

  • Deliver final documentation that can be used by the video team for future access
  • Utilize excel to create a structured inventory of the media library

What You'll Learn:

  • Video editing fundamentals
  • Increase knowledge of archiving assets and workflows on digital asset management (DAM)
  • Best practices for organizing large-scale video libraries
  • Experience working with server-based storage systems and file structures
  • Use of tools such as Excel and/or asset management platforms
  • Operational workflows and documentation practices
  • Collaboration with a professional video production team

What We're Looking For:

  • Current student enrolled in Film, Media Studies, Communications, or a related field
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working with large volumes of files and structured data
  • Basic familiarity with video file types and formats (ex: .mp4, .mov)
  • Ability to follow processes with consistency and accuracy
  • Strong written communication skills for documentation
  • Must be able to work within Pacific Time (PT) hours

You May Also Have:

  • Interest in surf culture or media production
  • Familiarity with editing software and media asset management tools
  • Basic experience with spreadsheets or databases
  • Understanding of video codecs and production workflows
